The Basilica of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré near Quebec City is one of the oldest and most famous pilgrimage destinations in North America. Dedicated to Saint Anne, the mother of the Virgin Mary, the shrine has been associated with miraculous healings since 1658. Crutches, canes, and prosthetics left behind by healed pilgrims line the walls of the basilica. The current impressive neo-Romanesque basilica was completed in 1946 after the previous church was destroyed by fire.
