About This Sacred Site
Troyan Monastery, dedicated to the Dormition of the Mother of God, is the third-largest monastery in Bulgaria, hidden in a forested valley of the Balkan Mountains. The monastery is renowned for its miraculous icon of the 'Three-Handed Virgin' (Troeruchitsa), believed to have healing powers. The church exterior and narthex are adorned with vivid frescoes by the master painter Zahari Zograph, depicting biblical scenes, saints, and the Last Judgment with remarkable expressiveness.
