About This Sacred Site

The Wudang Mountains in Hubei Province are one of the holiest sites in Taoism and the legendary birthplace of Tai Chi. The mountains are home to a complex of ancient Taoist temples, monasteries, and palaces, many built during the Ming Dynasty. The Golden Hall at the summit of Tianzhu Peak is an engineering marvel, cast entirely from gilded copper. The mountains are also famous as a center for Wudang martial arts, which emphasize internal energy cultivation and harmony with nature.
