☀️ Sacred Island of Delos
Greece
About This Sacred Site
Delos is a small island in the center of the Cyclades that the ancient Greeks considered the birthplace of the twin gods Apollo and Artemis. For this reason, it was the holiest sanctuary in the Aegean and a major pilgrimage destination. The Delian League, the powerful alliance led by Athens, took its name from this sacred island. At its height, Delos was a thriving cosmopolitan center with temples, theaters, and the famous Terrace of the Lions. Birth and death were forbidden on the island to preserve its sacred purity.
