About This Sacred Site
The Heydar Mosque is the largest mosque in the South Caucasus region, located in Baku, Azerbaijan. Completed in 2014 and named after the country's former president Heydar Aliyev, the mosque can accommodate up to 7,000 worshippers. The design draws on the classic Shirvan-Absheron style of medieval Azerbaijani architecture, with a large central dome flanked by two minarets.
