🌿 Land of Frankincense Sites
Oman
About This Sacred Site
The Land of Frankincense UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Oman's Dhofar region encompass archaeological sites and groves linked to the ancient frankincense trade. Frankincense has been central to religious worship across multiple faiths for thousands of years, mentioned in the Bible, the Quran, and ancient Egyptian texts. The sites include the ancient port of Khor Rori, the caravan oasis of Shisr (possibly the legendary Ubar), and the frankincense park at Wadi Dawkah. The resin was considered so precious that it was among the gifts the Magi brought to the infant Jesus.
