🏛️ Temple of Raqchi (Temple of Wiracocha)
Peru
About This Sacred Site
Raqchi, located between Cusco and Lake Titicaca, contains the remains of the largest known Inca roofed structure — the Temple of Wiracocha. The massive temple wall, still standing over 12 meters high, once supported a roof that spanned an incredible 25 meters. The complex was dedicated to Wiracocha, the supreme creator god of the Incas who was believed to have risen from Lake Titicaca to create the sun, moon, and stars. The site also includes over 200 circular storehouses (qolqas), ceremonial baths, and residential areas. An annual festival celebrating Inca culture is held here each June.
