⛪ Saint Joseph's Oratory of Mount Royal
Canada
About This Sacred Site
Saint Joseph's Oratory on Mount Royal in Montreal is the largest church in Canada and one of the largest domed churches in the world. It was the vision of Brother André Bessette, a humble Holy Cross brother credited with thousands of miraculous healings through his devotion to Saint Joseph. Beginning as a tiny chapel in 1904, the oratory grew as pilgrims flocked to Brother André for healing. The current basilica, completed in 1967, features a copper dome that is the third-largest of its kind in the world. Brother André's heart is preserved in a reliquary in the oratory, and he was canonized as a saint in 2010. Crutches left by healed pilgrims line the walls of the votive chapel.
