🙏 Zaouia Sidi Bel Abbès (Marrakech)
Morocco
About This Sacred Site
The Zaouia of Sidi Bel Abbès is the most important religious sanctuary in Marrakech, dedicated to the city's patron saint, Sidi Bel Abbès (Abu al-Abbas al-Sabti, 1130-1205). He is the most revered of the 'Seven Saints of Marrakech,' a circuit of seven zaouias established by Sultan Moulay Ismail in the 17th century as a pilgrimage route. Sidi Bel Abbès was famous for his charity toward the blind and disabled, and to this day the zaouia provides free food and support to the needy. The complex includes a mosque, hammam, madrasa, and accommodation for pilgrims. The circuit of the Seven Saints was recognized as a form of spiritual walk similar to the Camino de Santiago.
